The Miró Quartet is one of America’s most celebrated string quartets, cited by The New Yorker as “furiously committed” and by the Cleveland Plain Dealer for its “exceptional tonal focus and interpretive intensity.” For thirty years, they have performed on the world’s most prestigious concert stages, earning accolades from critics and audiences alike. Based in Austin and thriving on its storied music scene, the Miró takes pride in finding new ways to communicate with audiences of all backgrounds, while cultivating the longstanding traditions of chamber music.
Formed in 1995, the Miró Quartet was awarded first prize at competitions including Banff and Naumburg. Since 2003, they have been resident at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music. The first string quartet to be awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, their Emmy-winning audio-video, Transcendence, documents their recording of Schubert’s Quartet in G Major on Stradivarius instruments. The Miró records independently and makes their music available globally online. Their album, Home, was a 2025 GRAMMY Award nominee.
The Miró Quartet took their name and inspiration from the Spanish artist Joan Miró, whose Surrealist works are some of the most groundbreaking, influential, and admired of the 20th century.
